Options for Carrying a Concealed Firearm

When you get your concealed carry permit, there’s usually a lot on your mind. What kind of gun will you get? What kind of ammo do you need? Where will you practice shooting? Amid all that, there is one question that often gets left out, where will you put the gun?

Clothing

Most people think of holsters when they think of carrying a concealed weapon. Watch almost any television show involving guns and everyone’s using a holster. Did you know there are undercover clothes you can wear to conceal your firearm? There are underwear, tank tops, and leggings designed to fit neatly under your clothing while comfortably holding your gun or guns. Imagine slipping a tank top on under your tee-shirt before going for your morning run, rather than messing with a holster or something requiring a belt.

Holsters

Just because there are clothing options doesn’t mean there’s no place for a holster. With options like small-of-the-back, ankle, pocket, and Outside-the-Waistband (OWB) to name a few, there’s no doubt that holsters still provide tremendous versatility when it comes to carrying your firearm in public.

Off-Body

Off-body carrying can be more challenging than on-body carrying because you’re required to keep tabs on whatever means of storage you’re using, so if you lose or misplace things often, off-body carrying is not for you. That said, there are purses, briefcases, and even planners designed specifically with built-in holsters to facilitate those times when you simply can’t keep your weapon on your body.

Figuring out how and where you want to carry your firearm is part of the process when you start carrying concealed. Luckily, there are a lot of options out there to help you find the right fit for you and your lifestyle. And, remember, you don’t have to limit yourself to just one.
